Hearst Castle Hearst Castle

Hearst Castle, San Simeon, is a Moorish style castle  approximately halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles on the beautiful CA Highway One. Built by the newspaper magnet William Randolph Hearst, it's a strange mixture of styles, containing numerous ancient works or art and some modern replicas by local artists.

The outdoor 'Neptune' pool at Hearst Castle is even more impressive than the indoor 'Roman' pool.   It's 104 feet long, 58 feet wide and 95 feet wide at the alcove. It is 3.5 feet deep at the west end, 10 feet at drains and holds 345,000 gallons of water.

Unfortunately, on the normal tours, taking pictures inside the house is prohibited.
